About Us

| My name is Carolyn Watson and I am the proud of owner of Veronica Violet Stitcheries.
I have been sewing since the age of 10 (I was churning out cloth dolls with co-ordinating outfits on the treadle sewing machine) and spent many of my weekends as a teenager sewing and trying all sorts of crafts at my grandmother’s – Veronica Violet Morgan, hence the name of my business. Some of my favourite memories are of the weekends I spent at Gram’s, sewing all day and her making me breakfast in bed of a hot cup of tea and toast with honey. It was a very “daggy” past-time for a teenager, but my friends at school just loved the fingerless gloves I knitted and sold to them for the bargain price of $5.

| Over the years I have produced many wonderful (and not so wonderful) creations - from macramé plant hangers, woven cushions, knitted dolls and jumpers, hundreds of tracksuits and clothing for my 3 children, crochet rugs and cross-stitches. I’ve pretty much tried my hand at everything – even coat-hanger covers made from recycled bread wrappers and paper clip necklaces! Yes, I truly amaze myself sometimes!!!

| In 1996 I discovered Patchwork and as they say “it was the beginning of the end”. I began teaching Cloth Doll and Patchwork Classes on 2001 and have dreamed of owning my own Patchwork Shop. Veronica Violet Stitcheries began as a home-based business in 2004. I taught classes from my workshop at home and got up early on weekends to have stalls at local markets.

| In June 2006 Veronica Violet Stitcheries opened as a ‘real’ shop in the Crossroads Store. It is a lovely old, red brick building built in the 1930’s and had been a Milk bar. In recent years it was a Café and Collectables Store. As I sat in the Café drinking my coffee, I imagined how lovely the shop would look covered in quilts and patchwork bits and pieces. The opportunity arose and I decided to: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined” (Thoreau). There are not enough hours in the day and unfortunately I no longer have the time to attend the markets. I have to face the fact that I’m just not Wonder Woman (no matter how hard I try sometimes). I really don’t miss the early morning starts and setting up the gazebo!

| Veronica Violet Stitcheries offers “Sit & Stitch” Sessions most days of the week as well as running Patchwork, Cloth Doll and Bag classes. Mystery Quilt classes are run on a regular basis along with U.F.O. weekends and Scrap Happy Saturday Classes. Barely a day goes by without me doing some kind of sewing, even if it is only a few minutes. I truly love my work and can’t wait to walk through the door of my store every morning. I feel very lucky to by ‘living my dream’ along the lines of my career. During my years of sewing I have met many talented ‘fellow stitchers’ – many who have now become close friends - my thanks for your continued support and friendship. A huge thank you to my Dad (Lex - the store carpenter) and my Mum (Beatrice - the store baker) for their help and to my 3 children (Josh, Brittney and Mitchell) for putting up with a busy and exhausted but happy and proud Mum.
